Don’t be fooled by products claiming to be SABS “Approved” - only products with the SABS Mark on are authorised and approved to do so.

Cartridges & Filters Explained

  • Particulate Filters:
    • P1: Low-level dusts
    • P2: Moderate-level dusts, mists, fumes
    • P3: High-level toxic particulates
  • Gas/Vapor Cartridges:
    • A: Organic vapors (e.g., solvents, paint fumes)
    • B: Inorganic gases (e.g., chlorine, hydrogen sulfide)
    • E: Acid gases (e.g. sulfur dioxide)
    • K: Ammonia and derivatives
  • Combination Cartridges: Provide protection against multiple hazards (e.g., ABEK + P3).

Selection of the most appropriate respirator depends on the contaminant and Occupational Exposure Level (OEL) and guidance should always be sought.
